Tomy Drissi and Daniel Ramoutarsingh rounded out the top six for Rocketsports Racing in the 2009 Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series season opener this past weekend at Road Atlanta.

Ramoutarsingh also made an impressive debut this weekend in Braselton, Georgia. It was a whole new experience for him, being not only a rookie to the series, but also a rookie to American road courses. He had to adjust to longer, more demanding race courses in terms of higher speeds and cornering forces. He made vast improvements in each on-track session by working on his driving and car setup with the RSR engineers. Driving the #8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR, the Trinidad native recorded a qualifying time of 1:26.039 (106.277 mph) placing him 11th on the grid.

Making his first Trans-Am Series start, Ramoutarsingh was able to drive a clean race and gain five spots to finish 6th overall. Completing 35 laps, he posted his quickest race lap of 1:25.772 (106.608 mph) and earned his first top-ten series’ finish. He also earned 20 championship points and sits seventh in the Trans-Am Series standings after Round One.

“The weekend went very well, it was a real learning process trying to figure out the track in the time that we had,” said Ramoutarsingh. “I am so grateful for the team I have, they did an excellent job and it was a pleasure working with them and with engineer John Mills. Tomy Drissi was a great teammate; he helped me out a lot. We were able to cut down the lap times gradually; again I wish I had more time on track. But I am very happy that I was able to contribute and finish the race. I had no issues during the race. It was very unfortunate what happen to Tomy – he deserved to be up in front and drove a great race. I was very impressed with the level of competition and the organizers; it was a really great event.”

Personal Biography
Born the first son of Jack Paul Ramoutarsingh, a founding member of the ‘Flying Tigers", the first Trinidad & Tobago Motorsport Club. Daniel had a passion for Motocross and Power Boats, which were later abandoned to pursue Road Racing as stipulated by his late father. Ironically, his father Jack was given a choice to give up motor sport or marry Daniel's mother, Beatriz. Father and son always had a passion for the machine and Daniel worked against all odds to compete. He spent seven years on the management of the FIA ASN of Trinidad and Tobago, most of which as Secretary General and FIA sanctioned Chief Steward. His first love is Road Racing, of which he continues to sacrifice to make this dream a reality. Jack Paul Ramoutarsingh passed away shortly after they purchased the Rocketsports RS 28 Jaguar XKR, and it his in his honour that Daniel took the competition number 18, belonging to his father throughout his life.

Taken from an article in the Trinidad Guardian June 3rd, 2009

Rocketsports Racing drivers duo of Trinidad and Tobago's Daniel Ramoutarsingh and Tomy Drissi were outstanding over the weekend at the 2009 Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series in Ohio, USA.
Ramoutarsingh, a Trans-Am rook¬ie, earned his best finish of the season when he placed fourth and in the process claimed the top rookie spot in addition to holding a top three overall spot. .
This was a welcome performance by Ramoutarsingh who had to recov¬er from a spin, which allowed the whole grid to pass him.
Drissi on the other hand, took second, which put him at the top of the Championship points standings.
This was Drissi's third time on the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio course. It was Ramoutarsingh's first, however. "I was told that Mid-Ohio was going to be a technical track, but I didn't think it would be as technical as it was," said the rookie. "The track was a lot more of a challenge than I expected, but I am very grateful to the track because it treated me well."
Ramoutarsingh finished in a time of 1:25.527 (95.043 mph) while Drissi who started the grid in third position, posted a time of 1:23.879 (96.911 mph).
The 2009 Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series will return to the track in two weeks at Portland International Raceway for Round Five—the Fluge Global Adventures Rose Cup Classic, June 14.
